Senior Schmooze with Jennie Meade

Name:                  Jennie Meade
Age:                     97
Residence:         Indio, CA
Birthday:            August 21

How will you celebrate turning 98?

I plan on visiting Washington to see my family. But before I do, there’s something I need to take care of.

Is that “something” anything you can share?

Check back with me on my birthday and I’ll be happy to share.

What do you do for fun?

I have made ceramics/figurines my whole life. Even though I have slowed down with that, I continue to work in my Chinese Rock Garden. I also like to cook and drive.

Where do you drive?

I drive everywhere!

Do you consider yourself a fast or slow driver?

I’ll be at a stop light and there’s a guy next to me picking his nose. When the light turns green, I hit the gas and he’s still there. Now you tell me who’s fast or slow?

I think that answers my question. Tell me about your husband.

I was married to John Meade for 42 years. Prior to that, I was married two other times and I still love every one of them!

Do you want to get married again?

I don’t need to get married, but I want a man who’s a good conversationalist. I was on the debate team in college and even won a few awards. I just want a man who can keep up with me.

What kind of work did you do?

I worked at Boeing for 19 years. I started as a clerk making sixty-seven cents an hour and retired as the first female manager to oversee final assembly. I also was an Art Teacher at Auburn High School.

Did you look forward to turning 100?

I’m looking forward to living because I have a great time with my grandchildren. It’s fun thing to see what’s going to happen.

If your mind is good, the rest is easy!

You’re an amazing woman and I appreciate your time.

Do you have any words of wisdom for other seniors?

I think the most important thing in life is family, and to believe in forgiveness. Also, there’s nothing you can’t do if you put your mind and heart into it.

Thanks Jennie, and I guess I’ll see you on the 21st of August.

I’ll be waiting!
